Rocksoft Repertory II: Fantômas

In 1911 a fictional criminal called Fantômas comes on the scene in France. He is the subject of volumes of written work eagerly devoured by the public. This guy Fantômas represents the transition from the traditional villain of 19th Century Gothic novels, to the modern psycho-killer mold. Yes, this dude is no joke:

“He is totally ruthless, gives no mercy, and is loyal to none, not even his own children. He is a master of disguise, always appearing under an assumed identity, often that of a person whom he has murdered. Fantômas makes use of bizarre and improbable techniques in his crimes, such as plague-infested rats, giant snakes, and rooms that fill with sand.”

Pretty cool. So in 1913 this guy Feuillade begins a film serial using the Fantômas character. In 2009 I watch the first episode and like it.
