Latest Source for Lean Protein: Baby Dragon

I never thought 7-Eleven was on the cutting edge of meat products, but they really seem to be innovators in this case.

Dragon meat (bone included). Straight wings son. I gotta say, they look a lot smaller than I would have guessed. Maybe this is baby dragon? I didn’t think 7-Eleven sold delicacies.

Whatever the case may be, it’s time to start the day off with dragon wings and a cup of coffee. And make sure you get them “Asian-Style.” I hear dragon from other continents doesn’t taste nearly as good.

Gluttony XI: Macarons vs. Macaroons

Posted in Food Blogs, Gluttony with tags , , , , , , , , , , on September 1, 2009 by Enrique Enfuego

IMG00137-20090831-2313French macarons are a recent addition to my life. Before it was strictly the coconut-based deli bakery-style macaroon.

Ever since this watershed moment, the two delectable pastries have been vying for my heart’s love.

I was immediately a fan of the assortment of flavors one could find with these sweet treats (Paulette in Beverly Hills provided the above dozen), but the fresh coconut in a chocolate dipped macaroon still takes the cake. Although the French are determined to win me over with their chocolate dipped macaron ice cream sandwich.

Stay tuned for further developments in this battle for one man’s heart.

Lucky Charmify Your Life

Is your cereal too bland, but for some reason you won’t buy a sweeter, better tasting cereal? Then here is your solution…

Cerealmarshmallows.com allows you to purchase bags full of the small marshmallows we have all grown to love from years of eating Lucky Charms.

In their words, “They make (cereal) taste great and it’s a great way to get kids (or adults) to enjoy eating healthier cereal.”

What a concept. Get people to eat something healthy by making it unhealthy.

America…maintaining its rep hard.

Happy Meal Not So Happy After All

Posted in News, Rated R with tags , , , , , , , , , , on May 5, 2009 by Jennesis

In Fribourg, Switzerland, police are looking into a somewhat odd and grotesque claim that has been made by a 7-year old girl. The girl claims that she found a condom in her Happy Meal. Specifically, the condom was found amongst the little girl’s french fries. The girl’s mother called to inform authorities of the finding. Police said Monday they were investigating where the condom came from and how it got into the Happy Meal. They said an analysis was being done to determine if the condom posed a health risk. This could be another one of those planted items at a fast food joint in hopes to sue and get money. We all remember the finger that was planted at Wendy’s in the chili.

…speechless.

But of course, the old infallible computer trick. Something tells me Lucky developed those graphs themselves. Hughes should have sued. Dammit Hughes!

By the way, this chick must have had a 20 year contract with Lucky because she was running these spots for a good while.  And she still looked foyne!

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming…

Gluttony VIII: A Soupy Surprise

Posted in Gluttony with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 24, 2009 by Enrique Enfuego

soup

Yes, it looks the same going down as it does coming back up.

Widely considered the place to go for fish and shrimp tacos, Tacos Baja in East Los Angeles is a staple of the LA taco scene.

They serve all types of seafood and one way to try them all is in the mixed seafood soup. They might as well call it “all-encompassing seafood soup” because it felt like I was on a crusade against underwater overpopulation.

From what I could gather what went down was something like this: shrimp, scallops, octopus, abalone, clams, sea snail, and a hunk of unidentifiable fish.

Throw in some of these to make it hot fire…

These high-res pics can really look wild.

It’s a whole new way of looking at food. I am really digging this.

Homey even has one of my favorite sandwiches of all time, Katz’s Deli Corned Beef Reuben.

Dude eats a gang of sangs.

Gluttony VII: Where Fries Go To Die

Posted in Gluttony with tags , , , , , , , , on April 1, 2009 by Enrique Enfuego

Rocksoft calls it Gluttony Part Seven, others call it Asada Fries Heaven…

4059015f6b441carneasadafries

What you see is the Mexican version of an Irish version of a Mexican dish.

Popular in the southernmost portions of California, Asada Fries are slowly making their way north.

Just replace the tortilla chips in nachos with fries. Pretty simple. Just make sure you got the carne asada on there.

The Irish version typically uses bacon or chili and waffle cut fries…

Confused? Use the following formulas to determine what you are eating…

Chips + Cheese = Nachos
Waffle Cut Fries + Cheese + Bacon/Chili = Irish Nachos
Fries + Cheese + Carne Asada = Asada Fries

The Mis-steak of a Lifetime

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on March 24, 2009 by Enrique Enfuego

mushrooms-topper

Earlier this month, some old dude at a picnic was fiending so hard for some sauteed mushrooms to go along with his steak that he picked the nearest shrooms growing out of the ground.

Unfortunately for him they were not normal or even psychedelic mushrooms, but rather the lethal type of shrooms. After finishing his last supper, he was rushed to the hospital where he died a few hours later.

What I’m wondering is how his family just sits there and watches the 82-year-old poor guy pick some mushrooms, cook them and eat them? Everyone knows not to fuck with mushrooms unless they’re sold in a grocery store or ziploc bag.

He probably was tripping balls though.

Rollin’ Kogi Status

Posted in News with tags , , , , , , , on February 23, 2009 by Enrique Enfuego

Los Angeles is blessed with many things, one of which is the abundance of taco trucks roaming the streets. Another great thing about this city is the Korean BBQ. One visionary brought these two worlds together and has created quite the movement with his Kogi Korean BBQ Taco Truck.

3182360357_c0168c69ea

Two Rocksoft contributors had the pleasure of sampling some of the truck’s unique offerings and it lives up to the hype. Despite it’s small menu, the truck has something for everyone. I recommend the spicy pork taco. Bomb.

They now run two trucks everyday and night in an attempt to service both LA’s West and East sides. You can see where they are scheduled to park and serve on their website. But twitter is the crucial connection, if you really want to make sure you don’t miss out.

The movement caught so much steam that the head chef of the truck will begin serving up his own expanded menu at the Alibi Room in Culver City six nights a week starting tomorrow.  Solid work.

Posted in Gluttony with tags , , , on February 3, 2009 by Enrique Enfuego

In case you haven’t figured this out, Rocksoft is a fan of the running series. So here is another one that will highlight the best and worst of excessive food products.

Our first installment is not sold in stores. Ladies and gentlemen, the Philly Taco.

Yes, that’s a cheesesteak wrapped in a slice of pizza. Damn I’m hungry.
